Registration for Youth Basketball Camp
May 15 - July 5, 2006
Doolittle Community Center, Las Vegas
Top college basketball players will teach game fundamentals to boys and girls ages 11 to 14 who enroll in a free three-day camp that will be held Wednesday through Friday, July 19 to 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the city of Las Vegas Doolittle Community Center. The young athletes will be coached by Division One basketball players from the universities of Southern Utah, Tennessee, Pepperdine, Coastal Carolina, Washington and San Diego State University, as well as by former University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Running Rebel players. The free camp includes a T-shirt, water bottle, sports bag, daily breakfast snack and lunch. Parents of camp participants are invited to a free workshop on Friday, July 21, to learn ways to enhance youth nutrition and activities and how to prepare for college basketball recruiters and other college opportunities. The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, Golden Gaming and the Las Vegas Review-Journal are sponsoring the event.
Registration for the camp opens May 15 and closes July 5, or when full. Doolittle Community Center is located at 1950 North J Street. Call (702) 229-2158 for registration and information.


Registration Opens
for Cultural Arts Summer Classes

Registration for the summer session of classes offered by the Cultural Affairs Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, opens Saturday, May 20, and closes Thursday, June 8. Summer Jam

Free Summer Jam Inner City After School All-Stars (ages 6-11)

Community Garage Sale & Craft Fair
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Fee: $1 admission for buyers. Molasky Community School, 7801 West Gilmore, (702) 229-5345. Treasures await! Rent a booth or come to shop. Sellers booth rental $10, arranged in advance.


Hand Cycling Clinic & Family Day
Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Free (all ages)
Children’s Memorial Park, Gowan and Torrey Pines Roads. Families of all ages and abilities will enjoy learning to hand cycle (cycles provided), along with many other fun activities. Call Jonathan Foster at (702) 229-4796 for more information.


Parents’ Day Off
Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm
(ages 5-12)
Fee: $15 Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 North Pavilion Center Drive, (702) 229-1100. Children enjoy movies, games and snacks while parents take a day off. Register by May 13.


Stroller Derby Fun Walk
Time: 10:00am

Fee: $3; children 2 years and younger free. Molasky Community School, 7801 West Gilmore, (702) 229-5345. Stroller decorating contest and parade, plus raffles, music, games, refreshments and more. Call to reserve your family’s spot in this fun-filled event.


Wheelchair Basketball Challenge
Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm
Free 3 vs. 3 Wheelchair Basketball Challenge (ages 18+)
Children’s Memorial Park, Gowan Road at Torrey Pines. Call Jonathan Foster for more information at (702) 229-4796 or the R.A.G.E. office at 259-0789. Be prepared to purchase raffle tickets if you want a chance at the great prizes. Three local contractors have challenged the LV Wheelchair Basketball team to a game to raise funds for Rebuilding All Goals Efficiently, Inc. (R.A.G.E.). Bring the family and lunch to enjoy the games, live entertainment, raffles and plenty of fun.

14th Annual Unity Festival

The Doolittle Community Center, 1950 North J Street, invites area residents to enjoy the outdoor 14th Annual Unity Festival, at the center. Sponsored by the City of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, the free festival will offer a family obstacle course, children's games and activities, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, special guest performers, contests, demonstrations, free open swimming, community information, and much more. Refreshments will be available for sale.
